Jamuna Rail Bridge – Revolutionizing Bangladesh’s Rail Transport
The Jamuna Rail Bridge, Bangladesh’s largest railway bridge, is set to transform the country’s transportation network. It will enhance railway efficiency, reduce dependence on road transport, and accelerate passenger and freight movement. Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and built by Obayashi-TOA-JFE Joint Venture and IHI-SMCC Joint Venture, Japan, this project marks a significant step toward modernizing Bangladesh’s infrastructure.
To ensure maximum durability, Chugoku Marine Paints Limited (CMP), Japan exclusively supplied protective coatings for the bridge. The project follows the “Coating and Anticorrosion Handbook for Steel Highway Bridges 2014.3”, issued by the Japanese Road Association, ensuring long-term resilience against harsh environmental conditions.
Fluoropolymer Coatings: A First for Bangladesh
For the first time in Bangladesh, the CMP Fluorex fluoropolymer coating has been applied to safeguard a major infrastructure project. This advanced coating, powered by Japanese technology, offers exceptional resistance against corrosion, rust, and environmental damage. Additionally, it protects the bridge from moisture, oxidation, and industrial chemicals, ensuring long-term sustainability.
These innovations significantly reduce maintenance requirements and enhance durability. This milestone reinforces the role of cutting-edge coating technology in strengthening Bangladesh’s infrastructure.
Berger Paints’ Role in Infrastructure Development
Berger Paints Bangladesh, in collaboration with CMP, played a pivotal role in introducing next-generation coating solutions for the Jamuna Rail Bridge. Rupali Chowdhury, Managing Director of Berger Paints Bangladesh, emphasized the importance of this achievement:
“Applying CMP Fluorex fluoropolymer coatings on the Jamuna Rail Bridge marks a new era in Bangladesh’s infrastructure. This project demonstrates our commitment to innovation and excellence while setting a higher benchmark for coating technology in the region.”
With the application of world-class coatings, Berger has helped extend the lifespan of this critical infrastructure, ensuring long-term performance and reliability.
Berger Paints & CMP: A Strategic Partnership
In 2020, Berger Paints Bangladesh established a strategic partnership with CMP, making it the first local manufacturer of internationally recognized marine-class paints. Through this collaboration, Berger has introduced high-performance marine and industrial coatings, setting new industry standards.
With each project, Berger reaffirms its commitment to quality, durability, and technological excellence. The Jamuna Rail Bridge project is a testament to Berger’s role in shaping Bangladesh’s infrastructure with advanced, long-lasting coating solutions.
